Job Overview:

They are seeking a Speech Language Pathologists to join their team of up to five SLPs. You'll work collaboratively with teachers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors to provide services to students aged 5-21 years in a special education school setting. You'll provide speech and language assessments and therapy to students with a wide range of diagnoses including autism, rare genetic disorders, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, etc. The organization focuses on building students’ functional life skills in a supportive and collaborative environment. They have small class sizes and a large beautiful school campus where therapy can take place in a variety of settings.

The base salary is ranged $70,000 to $74,000 annually. The role follows a 10-month school calendar, with the option to work a 30-day summer session for up to an additional $9,000.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide direct and consultative speech-language therapy services to students.
  • Evaluate and treat speech, language, (social/cognitive) communication, and swallowing disorders as needed.
  • Assess, evaluate, and re-evaluate students and/or adults, in keeping with policies and goals indicated in IEP’s.
  • Develop, implement, and manage individual and group therapy goals in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, based on evaluation and assessment results.
  • Develop mealtime plans with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the health and safety of participants/residents.
  • Maintain and document therapy/intervention procedures and outcomes using the appropriate forms, records and reports, while following applicable regulations and departmental protocols.
  • Demonstrate appropriate interactions with students/adults to enhance individual performance, including implementation of behavior plans and interventions (e.g., SCIP-R).
  • Coordinate services and provide recommendations as well as feedback about progress to Day Program/School personnel, interdisciplinary team members, community agencies, CSE representatives and participant’s families (if applicable).
  • Provide in-service training and consultation to staff, parents and other professional personnel regarding swallowing concerns, mealtime interventions, mealtime plans, communication devices/methods, augmentative and alternative communication, care and maintenance of equipment, and other speech related interventions or techniques.
  • Supervise Speech Language Pathology – Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates, students, interns and volunteers as required or assigned.
  • Utilize and manage appropriate assistive and adaptive devices to support individual participant’s/resident’s needs.
  • Inventory, store, monitor and maintain supplies and equipment; maintain an organized and clean therapeutic program space as well as office space.
  • Maintain current knowledge of treatment practice per discipline-specific practice requirements.
  • Integrate current professional knowledge and skill into therapy program.
  • Actively participate in professional growth activities, continuing education programs, trainings, and all participant/resident review meetings; attend appropriate departmental meetings as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements: 

  • NYS Certification in Speech and Language Pathology.
  • Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; have the aptitude to learn other computer software as necessary.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Meet the requirements to drive company vehicles as required.
  • Be able to perform all physical interventions.
