Scismic is supporting the growth of a medical device company that is committed to transforming the treatment of insulin requiring diabetes. Their technology automatically controls glucose through a state-of-the-art implantable insulin pump paired with a glucose sensor. This new approach - fully automatic and implantable - gives people true freedom from the heavy burden of insulin therapy. 

We are looking for a Pharmaceutical Scientist to join the team in Carlsbad, CA! 

Reports to: 
Senior Scientific Staff 

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Develop and validate new analytical methods for the testing of drug substances and finished products 
  • Manage long term testing for pharmaceutical/device interactions 
  • Perform chemical analysis in support of quality processes 
  • Provide scientific support for intellectual property in regard to pharmaceutical inventions
  • Write standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new and existing methods 
  • Perform method troubleshooting 
  • Participate in publishing data in peer-reviewed journals and presentations 
  • Maintain a current knowledge of relevant scientific literature 

Required Qualifications: 
  • PhD in Chemistry 
  • 0-2 years experience 
  • Excellent laboratory skills including HPLC and other conventional chemical analytical instruments 
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written 
  • Ability to write scientific reports including data treatment 

  • Desired Qualifications: 
  • Ability to write scientific papers suitable for publication 
  • Knowledge of diabetes related pharmaceuticals 
  • Personal/professional knowledge of diabetes and related therapeutic advances. 
  • HPLC method development and/or validation experience 
  • Familiarity with insulin infusion pumps (CSII) 
  • Some familiarity with USP or EP test methods 
  • Some familiarity with GMP or GLP documentation and procedure requirements 
  • Knowledge of bio-materials engineering or materials science 
  • Experience with analytical sciences in the pharmaceutical or nutraceutical industry 
  • Experience in formulation development, analytical services, or a regulated quality control 
  • environment 
  • Experience designing and executing formulation stability studies is a plus 
  • Knowledge of biopharmaceuticals, especially experience studying protein stability or aggregation
