Scismic is supporting the growth of a Cambridge, MA biotech startup that is pioneering mRNA-modulating therapies to cure a broad range of genetic diseases. The company is exploring the use of its novel platforms in neurological disorders, heart disease, and muscular dystrophies.

Job Description: 

We are looking for Research Associate (RA-I or RA-II) with an innovative mindset, great attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively to solve problems in preclinical research and development. The successful candidate will support our scientists in the design and development of the company’s novel therapeutic platforms and have an opportunity to positively impact patients with serious unmet medical needs. The ideal candidate will have experience in standard molecular and cellular biology techniques and cell-based assays for molecular screening. This position requires an innovative mindset, great attention to detail, and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fluid, fastpaced work environment. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 

  • Execute and/or troubleshoot diverse assays (e.g., PCR, Jess Western, and flow cytometry) in primary cells, cell lines, and/or rodent tissues to characterize the efficacy and safety of the company’s novel therapeutic platforms. 
  • Design plasmids, molecular cloning, AAV production, and AAV purification. 
  • Assist Scientists in data analysis and communication of results in written and oral presentations.  
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of experiments and data in an electronic lab notebook. 
  • Collaborate with other teams across the organization to support data-driven decision-making. 
 
Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A BS/MS in Muscle Biology, Neuroscience, Molecular/Cell Biology, or a related discipline. ·Minimum BS and one year of relevant experience. Will consider hiring at the RA-II level for candidates with MS or 3+ years of relevant experience. 
  • Experience with a variety of molecular and cellular techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA/protein purification, PCR, IHC, Western, MSD); interest in learning additional assays and protocols. 
  • Hands on experience in mammalian cell culture (primary muscle cells highly preferred) and flow cytometry. 
  • Experience in RNA biology, mRNA expression analysis, gene therapy or editing, and/or NGS are also highly preferred. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment. 
  • Scientifically rigorous, highly organized, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
